Trigger Point Therapy
Trigger points are areas in the muscles that are hypersensitive to touch and can cause a considerable amount of discomfort. The body creates trigger points by winding the muscle fibers in on themselves almost like spaghetti being wound around a fork. This causes blockages of blood flow in the muscles and can create a build-up of toxins.
Trigger points can be created through stress and tension in the body for example in the neck and shoulders from prolonged sitting at a desk or repeated muscle movement such as lifting weights at the gym without properly stretching out the muscles after use. Treatment for trigger points can involve a variety of massage techniques to help release the trigger point and encourage the body to return to its normal resting point.
